CHARLOTTETOWN – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) announced its 2019 CIBC Canada/Russia Series Roster. The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Canada/Russia Series is an annual junior ice hockey exhibition tournament held between a select team of Russian players and all-star teams representing the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Western Hockey League.

Team QMJHL includes Moncton Wildcats defenceman, Jordan Spence. The 18-year-old was drafted in the NHL 2019 draft in the fourth round, 95th overall by the Los Angeles Kings. Spence’s Prince Edward Island playing career included the Mid-Isle Matrix Major Bantam, Charlottetown Pride Major Midget, and Summerside Western Capitals Junior “A” before beginning his QMJHL career with the Wildcat. The young d-man was a part of Canada’s National U18 team last season and recorded 49 total points in the QMJHL during the 2018-2019 season.

Charlottetown Native Tyler Jay has also been selected to join Team QMJHL’s roster as one of the team’s 4 support staff. Jay is currently in his first year as Head Equipment Manager with the Saint John Sea Dogs and was previously an Equipment Manager with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL and Summerside Western Capitals of the MHL. Jay has also attended Hockey Canada POE events in Calgary while serving on multiple Hockey Canada Support Staff for National Team events.

The third Islander selected to attend the series is Summerside Native, Tanner Doiron. Doiron is currently in his second season as a linesman in the QMJHL and has been chosen to be one of eight officials to officiate the series games which will be hosted by the QMJHL. Doiron will be doing lines for Game 2 of the series in Moncton, NB at the Avenir Centre on November 5th. Doiron has also officiated at the international U17 event and most recently been selected to attend the CHL/NHL Development Camp in Toronto, ON.
