Hard Hat Award Winners

Every team has an individual that shows up at practice, at games and always puts forth their best effort. It is an individual who has a positive attitude, is supportive of fellow teammates, is respectful to his coaches, teammates, opponents and is a hard worker with a never‚Äďsay die attitude.

Central Storm – Renee Chapman

Renee exemplifies the qualities of a Hard Hat award in a way that is visible to anyone who watches her play.    No matter the situation, Renee shows up to work.   Renee is a talented hockey player who works hard in practice to develop her skills, her attitude, effort and ability to practice like she plays pushes her teammates to match her competitive spirit.  During games she is always first to the puck, first to back check and first to help out in the defensive zone.  Renee consistently rises to the unique challenges of each game and situations.  Her work ethic and compete level are contagious, she is a true leader by example.

Midisle Wildcats –¬†Sophie Crabbe

Sophie injured her shoulder in our 2nd exhibition game of the season and was not able to return to the line up until the middle of January.  Sophie had a personal goal to return and be ready for action.  She went to physio every week, did her exercises at home, and missed only one practice during her 3 months off.  She was surprised when she was voted team Captain by her teammates but the coaches were not. Sophie is a kind hard working young lady who loves the game of hockey.

Western Wind – Gracie Greenan

Gracie is an individual who is the definition of a warrior. She is willing to do whatever it takes to win a hockey game. She blocks shots, she battles, and she cheers on her teammates no matter the score of a game. Gracie shows up to practice and gives everything she has every time. She is consistent, and is the heart and soul of Western Wind U15 AAA hockey team.

Rookie of the Year:

The Rookie of the Year goes to a first year player in the PEI U15 Female AAA League who demonstrates excellence in the sport, skill and team commitment.  This years’ Rookie of the Year is Addison Langley РMidisle Wildcats

Addison is a 1st year player who has demonstrated her skills throughout the year.  Addison is a confident player who has the ability to see and control the ice when on.  She is considered both a goal scorer and playmaker with us.  She also has good leadership skills that will be counted on next season.

Most Improved Player

The winner of this award is a player who has consistently improved throughout the season. This years’ Most Improved Player is Makenzie Woodford РMidisle Wildcats

Makenzie is a second year player who last season lacked some confidence.  She figured she would use the off season to work on her shot and conditioning so she could be a go to defenceman for this year. That is exactly what she accomplished. It shows in her confidence level.  The coaches now look to Makenzie in all game situations and we know she can handle the extra pressure that goes along with it.  Makenzie has a great personality and is a joy to coach.

Most Sportsmanlike Player

The Most Sportsmanlike Player award goes to the player who best exemplifies fair play and sportsmanlike behaviour toward her opponents, officials, and fans. The winner of this award shows you can play hard but also play in a sportsmanlike way. This years’ Most Sportsmanlike Player is Annie-Pier Morency from the Western Wind

Annie Pier is an individual who is very deserving of this award. She battles hard and tries to win every game, but when that final whistle blows, she sets the game aside and leaves everything on the ice. She is a quiet leader, who demonstrates that no matter how hard the battle, we are all just one big hockey family.

Top Goaltender

The Top Goaltender award is presented to the goaltender who has demonstrated overall excellence and team spirit, as well as sportsmanship, and a positive attitude throughout the season. This years’ Top Goaltender is YiYi Peng РMidisle Wildcats

YiYi has faced a lot of shots this year and that’s the way she likes it. Yiyi never gives up on a play and she gives us a chance to win every single game.  It is not easy knowing your goalie is going to be the difference maker each night but there is no pressure YiYi cannot handle.  She is easy to coach and just wants to play hockey.

Top Defenseman:

The players nominated as top defenseman showed great defensive skill as well as how a defenseman’s offensive skills adds to their team’s success. Top Defenseman: Abby Larkin РCentral Storm.

Abby has excellent defensive skills, for example her defensive 1 on 1’s, blocking shots, adjusting defensive zone coverage.  She also is proficient at moving the puck out of our defensive zone and starting our attack.  Abby is one of our best skaters and her ability to skate with and without the puck makes her contribute to our team defense and offense success.    Abby is one of our best special teams players, her skating and shot make her an impactful player on both our powerplay and killing penalties opportunities.

Top Forward:

The Top Forward Award goes to the player who best combines playmaking ability and a never say die Рwinning attitude. She’s a leading offensive threat and knows her defensive responsibilities. Top Forward is Petra Klimes РCentral Storm

Petra is a great competitor; she works hard in practice on her individual skills and team concepts.   Her work ethic and competitive play have translated in to over a point a game average, leading the league in scoring.  She is a leader on our team as well with her positive attitude that contributes to her success and the success of others.  Petra has a good hockey sense and is responsible in our defensive zone and an excellent penalty killer.

Most Valuable Player:

Many factors go in to choosing a Most Valuable Player and for most teams this involves performance and commitment in the dressing room, at practices and during the games. It involves determined play, commitment to the team concept and being a team player. These players stand out above others on the team.  This year the U15 AAA league MOST VALUABLE PLAYER is Carys Jelly  from  Central Storm.

Carys is a team leader on and off ice.  During team activities she makes sure that everyone is working hard, feeling included and having fun.  At the rink she is consistently one of our hardest workers, she spends time working on individual skills and larger team concepts, she shows an understanding of having good habits and focusing on the details are important for teams success.  In addition she helps her teammates to achieve their potential with a kind word, piece of advice and is always smiling.   During games Carys is an offensive and defensive leaders.  She uses her skills and hockey sense to create offensive chances for herself and her teammates.  Defensively she backchecks hard, blocks shots and has great positioning in the defensive zone making her a Most Valuable Player.
