OFF ICE HOCKEY STARS

We’ve got many hockey enthuisiasts on PEI who make the game happen both on and off the ice. Without these special individuals, minor hockey on PEI wouldn’t be what it is today! Jackie is known as an outstanding volunteer and supporter for the Evangeline Minor Hockey Association, currently dedicating her time and energy as their ice coordinator and as a team manager, to name just a few of the ways she’s involved.

“Jackie spends many hours ensuring our teams have ice, organizes our yearly tournament and is always volunteering to help with events.”

Special thanks to Jackie for all of the time she puts in so that minor hockey can be so great for the kids!

Mario is known for his hard work for the Evangeline Minor Hockey Association. He is a member of the EMHA board, has coached at both the Novice and Initiation levels, and even lends his time as a referee for games at all levels!

“Mario spends lots of time helping to shape our younger players…When he’s not coaching he is typically still on the ice refereeing, acting as a mentor to our younger referees.”

Tara is heavily involved with the Evangeline Minor Hockey Association and currently serves as their treasurer. Tara is known for going above and beyond her duties, organizing numerous events from registration to fundraising with great enthusiasm.

​Aaron Baglole is the Pre-Novice director for the Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association, and has been involved with the Association since his first child came through five years ago. Aaron loves to coach and lends a hand as assistant coach for both the Atom AAA and Novice A team.

“He is so committed to seeing the Pre-Novice program grow and improve. He puts in a lot of ice time between assisting with Atom AAA and Novice A and then running the Pre-Novice program, which he’s been doing for five years, all while being a great father to his 5 young kids.”

Steven is well known for his involvement with the Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association. Steven currently coaches the Pre-Novice Flyers and the Atom A team 1, and can always be depended on to go above and beyond for the kids he coaches.

“He’s done a beautiful job coaching my son’s team the last two years.”

Cory is a hard-working supporter of minor hockey on PEI, having volunteered his time coaching at various levels for over 25 years!  He started a Skills and Drills hockey program to give kids and parents a chance to experience the game, and is currently serving as 2nd vice president for the Pownal Minor Hockey Association, along with being the head coach for Pownal Minor Hockey Association’s Bantam AA team.

Joel is a dedicated volunteer for the Evangeline Minor Hockey Association, working hard as a coach, board member, and as development coordinator.

Paula has a face that is well recognized around the Pownal rink. Currently, Paula serves as the Bantam Boys director for the Pownal Minor Hockey Association and is the team manager for each of her two son’s teams (Bantam and Midget). Paula is one of the first to volunteer her name for activities during tournaments and other special events.

“Paula’s overall positive attitude and smile is contagious with all those around her. Our team, the division she represents, and PMHA as a whole, is a successful operation because of the commitment of Paula.”

“She is a great example of the type of highly-involved parent that minor sports need to be successful!”

Mélanie is someone known for working hard for minor hockey on PEI. She is currently serving as the secretary and registrar for the Bedeque and Area Minor Hockey Association, along with taking on the duties of the Association’s chief fundraising coordinator. Mélanie has served as a team manager for four years running, and is this year’s referee coordinator for the Atom team. She is the proud mother to two young minor hockey players.

“She is tireless about registrations, promoting the programs, and making sure we reach our goals.”

Blair is well known for being a hard-working supporter of minor hockey on PEI, and is with the North Star Minor Hockey Association. He is on the executive as the Initiation and Novice Coordinator and is currently the head coach for the North Star Novice A team. Apart from his work on the ice, he also acts as the NSMHA’s website administrator!

“Blair works hard to make sure things run smoothly and the kids have a great experience with the sport.”

Jason Darrach has been involved with minor hockey for many years. He currently coaches the Southside Lynx Peewee A Boys and is an assistant coach for the Southside Wildcats Midget A Girls, the team his daughter plays for. He is well known for letting the Peewee A Boys shave his hair into a Mohawk last year after they secured a spot in the provincials! Jason also has two younger children that have just started their hockey journeys, and he looks forward to supporting and coaching them as well.

“These kids adore him. He treats them all like his own.”

Randy is a great supporter of minor hockey on PEI. Randy is the Director of the Pownal Minor Hockey Association’s female Bantam and Midget teams, and has coached both of his kid’s hockey teams over the years. He is one of the coordinators of the Pownal Rodd A Tournament, has been involved as referee assigner, is the president of the Pownal Rec Hockey League, and can even be found refereeing when he has the time!

“The endless hours Randy puts in at the rink is unbelievable.” 

“Amazing the time some people spend at the rink that are VOLUNTEERS!  He has been involved at the Pownal Sports Center for well over 22 years as a volunteer.”

Dean is known for going above and beyond for the Alberton Minor Hockey Association. Dean has been coaching hockey for years, even before he had kids of his own on the ice. This year he is coaching the Alberton Atom AA team!

Tyler is a hardworking staff member of the Cody Banks Arena, and is a big supporter of minor hockey on PEI. His enthusiasm and love for the sport never fails to make the playing experience special for everyone who spends time at the rink.

Coach Aaron Kelly and trainer Greg Beckingham are two invaluable members of the Southside Midget A team. Despite not having kids of their own on the team, they devote an incredible amount of their time and energy to coaching, training, and acting as positive role models for our young minor hockey players. Aaron and Greg are both known for never missing a game, or even an off-Island tournament, to be there to support their team.

“They are treated with respect and the boys look up to them, the boys play hard and are doing well this season under their leadership.”

“We are very grateful and appreciate their time with our boys!”

David is a long-time minor hockey supporter and player. He currently serves as the vice president for the Bedeque and Area Minor Hockey Association and for the Bedeque Area Rec Centre, and is the coach for the Bedeque PeeWee Stingers and assistant coach for the Bedeque Novice Stingers. He is the proud parent of two PEI minor hockey players, and even serves as a back-up Zamboni driver!

“Dave was key in the revitalization of the both the Bedeque Rink and Bedeque Minor Hockey.”

“Dave is tireless, friendly, positive, great with the kids, and has the well being of the community always as a priority. Dave is a great example of a hockey volunteer.”

Jessica is no stranger to minor hockey on PEI! Jessica is currently a member of the board of directors for the Bedeque and Area Rec Centre, and is known for teaching the popular “Learn to Skate” program, acting as an inspiration and role model for so many young female minor hockey players on the Island. She is also the proud mother of a future BAMHA player!

“She was the catalyst for a huge change at the Bedeque rink…She makes the learning experience fun and prepares so many children to enter the minor hockey program.”

Special thanks to Jessica for being such a great role model for PEI minor hockey players!

Allan has a face that is well known around the O’Leary Community Sports Centre! He’s been with the rink for 34 years as icemaker, Zamboni driver, and skate sharpener. Allan’s enthusiasm, hard work, and love of the sport has made minor hockey a great experience for everyone! Allan has decided to retire this year, and he will be greatly missed around the rink!

“He is like a hockey dad to all our minor hockey kids, from cheering, preparing the ice, having their skates just perfect, cutting sticks, or just standing and chatting about their season, the list could go on forever.”

“He goes above and beyond his duties to make all the teams hockey experience top notch and will be greatly missed by all.”

Christine is well known around Kensington for her years of dedication to supporting minor hockey in the area. She has many roles within the KAMHA and is currently their ice coordinator. Christine can always be counted on to spearhead fundraisers and events and does whatever it takes to make the sport a great experience for the kids, families, and other volunteers.

“She is the main cog in the KAMHA.”

Jonathon is from the Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association, and has been involved with multiple teams as either coach, team manager, or both! He currently manages the Sherwood Bantam 1 team and is the head coach for the PeeWee 1 team.

“He is always fair with all players, making sure they get ice time whether it’s a power play, penalty or whatever, regardless of skill level. He goes that extra mile…”

Michelle had spent countless hours into supporting the North Star Minor Hockey Association, dedicating her time as a board member, board secretary, treasurer, and finally president. She currently sits on the board as past president, and is someone everyone can depend on.  Michelle is also a member of Hockey PEI Minor Council.

“Michelle is an extraordinary volunteer who has spent endless days and nights working to make the North Star Minor Hockey the best it can be… She has done it all with expertise, grace and warmth.”

Kenneth Nicolle and Cory Deagle are two avid volunteers for PEI minor hockey. Together, they put in countless hours at the Montague Wellness Centre and have volunteered to coach both the Novice A boys and the Atom A boys teams.

In addition to coaching, they volunteer their time and energy to co-chair and organize the four-day Norseman Memorial Tournament and still find time to referee games.

“They are wonderful with the players and are a positive influence on our children’s attitude by teaching fair play and more importantly respect!”

David is no stranger to minor hockey on PEI! He is currently serving his second term as president of Bedeque and Area Minor Hockey Association, having previously served as vice president. He also coaches the Bedeque Bantam A team, and has coached both PeeWee and Atom in previous years. David also serves on the Wildcats board of directors, and is the proud father to two PEI minor hockey players.

“As a leader of the Board, he is knowledgeable, collaborative, and professional at all times. His personal goal is to keep kids playing hockey.” 

“It is a testament to his leadership that we adopted the Association’s values based on his personal approach as a coach and leader.”

Tammie and Marlene are two forces to be reckoned with when it comes to supporting minor hockey! They are well known as the co-chairs of the Sherwood Minor Hockey Association Early Bird Tournament, putting in a tremendous amount of work to organize and deliver one of the largest and most successful AAA/AA tournaments on PEI.

“They take great pride in offering a quality product for young hockey players from all over the Maritimes…They go above and beyond to ensure the tournament is of the highest quality.”

John and Karen Rank put in many hours operating the canteen at the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre. Throughout the season, they provide endless support to our minor hockey families. From greeting everyone with a smile, to rewarding the home teams’ first season wins with canteen treats, John and Karen help make the minor hockey experience special for everyone who visits the rink. They are well known for offering coloring sheets and crayons to younger siblings while their older brother or sister is on the ice – you can even find the artwork on the walls of the canteen!

“They are always showing a genuine interest in helping to support our minor hockey players.” 

Special thanks to John and Karen for all of the things they do to make hockey special for hockey families that visit the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre.

Tylan has a long history of supporting PEI minor hockey! Over the years, he has helped coach numerous AA and AAA teams in West Prince, on top of teaching the basics to players in the Novice and Skills programs in his home community of Tyne Valley.

Currently, Tylan coaches the Tyne Valley Novice A team and facilitates training camps and checking clinics. Tylan further volunteers his time by teaching Learn to Skate in Tyne Valley and sitting on the Board of Directors for the Tyne Valley Rink.

“He is a great coach, who is full of energy and who really takes the time to help young hockey players learn the fundamentals of the game.” 

“He is always willing to help kids develop their skills and he strives to help minor hockey flourish in our small communities.”

Special thanks to Tylan for going that extra mile to make minor hockey happen on PEI!

Brian is a name well known when it comes to minor hockey on the Island. He is currently the past-president of the Bedeque and Area Minor Hockey Association, having served as president for three years. Brian has been the annual chairperson of his Association’s provincials hosting efforts, and is the coordinator of the Bedeque and Area Rec Hockey League, to name just a few of his contributions.

With no children in minor hockey at the time, he took over the leadership and helped save the association in 2009.”

Sharon is an enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of minor hockey on PEI. Sharon currently manages the Bedeque Bantam team, which her son plays on, and serves as the treasurer for the Bedeque and Area Minor Hockey Association.

“Sharon provides great support to her other committee members and can always be counted on to get the job done.”

Kevin has made many contributions to minor hockey on PEI. He is the president of the Bedeque and Area Rec Centre board of directors and is a member-at-large of the Bedeque and Area Minor Hockey Association’s board of directors. Kevin has been a dedicated coach for the BAMHA for many years, and is the proud father to three minor hockey players!

“He has been the quiet confidence behind the capital project…He quickly raised his hand when the previous president announced that the rink would close without a new board.”

Lynda is a great supporter of minor hockey on PEI. She is the general manager for the Bedeque and Area Rec Centre, and spends much of her time ensuring that minor hockey is a great experience for the kids that skate at the rink. She works extremely hard for the BAMHA, helping with fundraisers and collecting money, retrieving and returning gear, and much, much more.

“She has a “can do” approach and is critical to the rink’s success.”

“Lynda effectively balances crazy hours at the rink while she lovingly mothers three young hockey players.”

Tish Shea is heavily involved with minor hockey on PEI as a key volunteer with Tignish Minor Hockey Association.  She lends a hand with all activities within the association.  Tish is also a member of Hockey PEI Minor Council. She is known for supporting multiple PEI Minor Hockey Associations, and is someone that can be depended on by the players, hockey families and fans, and other volunteers!
