Hockey PEI is pleased to announce that a new group, based out of Charlottetown, has been chosen for entry into the New Brunswick / PEI Major Midget League. Hockey PEI completed a thorough bid selection process and review before the awarding of the team.
The new franchise name is Charlottetown Pride and will be led by a team of Directors including; Ken MacDougall, Forbes MacPherson and Glenn Gaudet. The Charlottetown Pride will play out of the Bell Aliant Centre and will join the Kensington Wild as the second franchise in the New Brunswick / PEI Major Midget League for the 2016/2017 hockey season.
“Although this has been a difficult transition for the Major Midget league, we are pleased with this new direction for the team and look forward to the future success of the Charlottetown Pride”, stated Mike Hammill Chair of the Selection Committee for Hockey PEI. “The management group brings extensive experience and knowledge with a long-rooted commitment to the game. They’ve been successful as players, coaches and also in the management of the game”.
“This is an exciting day, we are thrilled to have been given this opportunity to operate a new team in the Major Midget league. We have seen the recent success with the Kensington Wild franchise and look forward to extending that success with this new team. This is an opportunity to expand and provide further growth to Midget players in the Province. We look forward to beginning the process immediately and being ready to compete come September,” stated Ken MacDougall representing the Charlottetown Pride.
Both the Charlottetown Pride and Kensington Wild will participate in the New Brunswick interlocking league through the regular season schedule. The two PEI teams then compete annually in a provincial championship finale to determine Hockey PEI’s representative for the Regional Telus Cup Championships.
