Charlottetown — Hockey PEI’s Executive Director Rob Newson is on the move from the provincial branch to join Hockey Canada.
Rob Newson, the longtime Executive Director of the provincial governing body, will be joining Hockey Canada as the new Atlantic Regional Director, Member Engagement. This new position will see Newson working closely with the provincial branches in the region including Hockey New Brunswick, Hockey Nova Scotia, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador and with Hockey PEI. Newson will be based out of Charlottetown.
“Hockey PEI is looking forward to working with Rob in his new role and see this as an excellent opportunity for not only Hockey PEI but the other Atlantic Branches with the delivery of Hockey Canada programs and initiatives,” stated Hockey PEI President Mike Hammill.
As Executive Director with Hockey PEI over the past 13 years Newson’s foresight and understanding of strategic initiatives have helped to elevate Hockey PEI’s presence on both the provincial and national level. The success of Hockey PEI’s social media and marketing campaigns are a direct result of Newson’s initiative and leadership. Hockey PEI’s prominence within the sports community is directly related to his passion for hockey in Prince Edward Island.
“My time with Hockey PEI has been very rewarding and a great experience to work with so many great volunteers to advance the game on PEI”, said Newson. “I look forward to the new challenge ahead and excited to join the Hockey Canada team”.
Newson’s background in hockey although he played minor hockey, was better known as an on ice official in which he had obtained his Level 6 Hockey Canada officiating certification in which he worked at various National and International events and as an official in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Newson will begin his new role with Hockey Canada on November 19th.
Hockey PEI would like to congratulate Rob Newson on his promotion to the National level and wish him the best of luck with Hockey Canada.
