This award is presented to a deserving female player who has excelled both on and off the ice. The ideal candidate should demonstrate qualities of hard work, sportsmanship, team commitment and fair play. This award is not merely based on goals and assists, but a combination of the extra attributes that make her a quality player for her team.

Charlottetown’s Chloe McCabe exemplifies the qualities you are looking for in the female player of the year award. Her work ethic, speed, attitude and commitment to the small details of the game have contributed to her being a dominant player in the PEI U18 AAA Female League this past season. She was a threat every time she was on the ice and would empty her tank every single shift, before coming off for a quick to go right back out and do it all again.

Her 34 points put her second in league stats. McCabe had 14pts in the playoffs which were the most out of any player in the league. Her scoring ability can be described as an admiral quality but it is her ability to make players around her better that is her strongest suit. Likewise, whoever was paired on the same line as McCabe, would have their game elevated simply from the effect she has on other players. Team captain, McCabe was the team’s leader on and off the ice this season. She displayed the hard nose work ethic every coach wants to see while keeping disciplined and having respect for her opponents which was evident by only compiling 7 minor penalties in 30 games.

Furthermore, McCabe exemplifies some important qualities that make her a great leader. She is selfless and does not relish in accolades. She’s never focused on her stats, but more so focused on winning no matter who receives the credit. McCabe is also described as fearless and is known for going into the dirty areas to make a play or block a shot, adding to her “doing whatever it takes” mentality. She brought a consistent performance game in and game out and was a great role model for her teammates, especially the younger players on her U18 AAA Central Storm team this season.

To the same extent, McCabe was awarded a league all-star award in her first two seasons in the PEI U18 AAA Female League. This year was no different as she picked up the league all-star and top forward in the league. She was also a member of the 2019 Canada Games Female Hockey Team as an underage player.

Away from the rink, McCabe has finished up her high school as an honours student at Charlottetown Rural High where she was a multi-sport athlete and also spent time volunteering at various programs and events over her years in school. McCabe plans to attend UPEI in the fall

Chloe McCabe is very well deserving of the 2020-21 Hockey PEI Female Player of the Year Award!
