Gordie Whitlock has served the sport of hockey for many years in various roles but especially in the areas of developing the game provincially and nationally. He is a devoted volunteer, an inducted Life Member of Hockey PEI, and the 2012 recipient of the Hockey Canada Gordon Juckes Award for his outstanding contributions to the development of amateur hockey in Canada.

In Honour of his contributions to the sport, the Gordie Whitlock Development Award is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to Branch Development Programs and/or provides outstanding volunteer services to their association by organizing activities, events, clinics that are designed to provide development opportunities for the members of that particular association and/or the branch.

As a member of Hockey PEI’s development council for the past 10 years, Shane Hamill has been a devoted member of the game of hockey here on Prince Edward Island. A dedicated volunteer within the Southside Minor Hockey Association for 15 years, Shane displays everything you could want and need in a volunteer. 

Shane held roles within the association as a coach, manager, board member and development coordinator. He has been a longtime champion of the female game on PEI and currently serves as Southside’s U15 division coordinator and Mid-Isle / Southside Female division coordinator. 

An unsung hero to the development of hockey in the Mid-Isle region for many years, it’s no secret Shane has a passion for the game and one that is long overdue to be recognized.¬†

For this, Hockey PEI is proud to name Shane Hamill as its 2020-21 recipient of the Gordie Whitlock Development Award.
