The Gordie Whitlock Development Award is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to Branch Development Programs and/or provides outstanding volunteer services to their own association by organizing activities, events, clinics that are designed to provide development opportunities for the members of that particular association and/or the branch.

Charlottetown, PE – Hockey PEI is proud to present Jen MacDonald as this year’s Gordie Whitlock Development Award winner. Jen and her husband Jeff reside in Stratford, PE.

Jen began volunteering with Hockey PEI’s High Performance Program in 2005, and was the Head Coach of the Canada Winter Games Women’s Team in 2015. Over the past five years as the Female Hockey Director of Minor Council, Jen has spent countless hours in the rink and in the boardroom growing the female game in Prince Edward Island. A teacher by vocation, you would often see Jen leading groups of volunteers through recruitment and development initiatives such as First Shift and U9 Jamborees, and has been integral in ensuring that female players at all levels across the Island are given the opportunity to develop and have fun.

This past year, Jen led a committee of over a dozen volunteers in conducting a thorough review of female hockey in PEI. She held town hall sessions across the province so that she could engage with players, parents and volunteers in order to learn more about what was needed from the game, and has since offered recommendations and a long-term plan for Hockey PEI to move forward. The female-side of the game will continue to grow and develop as a direct result of her efforts.

Jen’s contribution to the female-side of hockey in Prince Edward Island is outmatched only by her positive attitude and leadership of players and volunteers alike. Hockey PEI thanks Jen for her efforts over the past several years, and is proud to present her with the Gordie Whitlock Development Award.
