Charlottetown, PE – Given the uncertainty of the coming months, we wanted to provide a brief update on High Performance Program opportunities being explored for the U18 Male & Female categories in the event that a season is delayed, cancelled or is played untraditionally.

The intention of focusing on this age group is to bridge the gap of development opportunities for players that would normally be at team training camps at the U18 or Junior levels, and for players who are potentially heading into their final year of competition before going to college or university.

Programming would follow Hockey Canada’s High Performance Program, with on- and off-ice components, and focus on four pillars:

  • Physical Preparation
  • Mental Preparation
  • Tactical Preparation
  • Environment

Through this program, we will work closely with current U18 programs on the Island to offer further development and engagement within those programs. If and when we are prepared to play competitive hockey again, we would support those players and U18 programs in their return to normalcy.

We will also continue to explore development opportunities for our other age categories and work with Minor Hockey Associations and Zones to offer support and resources in the event of a non-traditional hockey season.

We look forward to our return to the ice and to support the work of the Return to Hockey Task Team.
