CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – In February, Hockey PEI announced its Female Hockey Plan, aimed at improving and growing the female hockey game on Prince Edward Island over the next 3 years. After a call for interest and an extensive search, we are excited to announce the individuals selected to be a part of the governance structure for Hockey PEI’s Female Hockey Council:

  • Zone Director, Central Zone: Susie Myers-Garrett
  • Zone Director, Mid Isle Zone: Krista Millar-Smith
  • Zone Director, Western Zone: Jill MacPhee
  • Member at Large: Shannon Burke
  • Development Coordinator: Blaine Fitzpatrick
  • Secretary: Jordan Miller


“I am delighted to welcome seven individuals as members of the Hockey PEI Female Council. These members possess a wealth of experience, knowledge, and skills that collectively will result in a strong council. The diverse backgrounds of these individuals, along with their leadership and commitment, will complement each other and benefit female hockey on PEI as we work to address the current challenges and seize opportunities for growth,” – Chair of Female Hockey, Valerie Stewart. 


About the council members:


Vice-Chair, Erin Ostridge: Ostridge started volunteering with hockey back in 2013 as a manager. Since then she has sat on the Pownal Minor Hockey Association board in the roles of Initiation Director, Secretary, Vice-President, President and currently Past President. She has been involved as the Pownal Zone 3 Female Rep for the last 4 seasons.


Zone Director – Central Zone, Susie Myers-Garrett: As the VP of Montague Minor Hockey Myers-Garrett is also responsible for the female side of the game. She has sat on the executive for the last 5 years and has organized many Esso Fun Days in her time. She is a big supporter of grassroots hockey. Furthermore, she has sat on the Central Storm committee for the past 4 years as the Kings County Rep and is the Co-President of Three Rivers Minor Ball Association. 


Zone Director – Mid Isle Zone, Krista Millar-Smith: Millar-Smith has volunteered with the North River Minor Hockey Association at the Board level for 3 years. She’s acted as a Division Coordinator, manager and COVID Liaison. Furthermore, she has been involved in female sports for many years, playing minor hockey growing up, coaching soccer and was a varsity rugby player at STFX for five years winning 5 AUS championships.  


Zone Director – Western Zone, Jill MacPhee: Macphee grew up playing minor hockey in Souris. She played for the UPEI Women’s Panthers from 2006 to 2010, was an assistant coach and DOPS with Hockey PEI’s HP Program and has also run HPEI development camps for females in years past.


Member at Large, Shannon Burke: Burke, a strong supporter of the game of hockey on PEI has been on several Boards currently, including the Eastlink Centre, Slemon Park Corporation, and Atlantic Technology Centre. In the past, she has held Treasurer roles with the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown, Sherwood Elementary Home and School and was on the board for Island Gymnastics Academy. She has also managed teams and volunteered with Sherwood Parkdale Rangers Soccer Club. 


Development Coordinator, Blaine Fitzpatrick: Fitzpatrick played 4 years in the Ontario Hockey League (CHL) and 4 years of Professional Hockey in the ECHL where he would win the Kelly Cup in the 1999-2000 season. He has also coached both male and female hockey over the last 10 years. 


Secretary, Jordan Miller: Miller grew up playing in the Northumberland Minor Hockey Association out of Murray River and then with the Kings County Kings in U15. She then went on to attend Rothesay Netherwood School to play hockey in her grade 11 and 12 years. Once graduated, Miller went to play hockey for the Tommies at St. Thomas University for 4 years. Most recently, while living in Fort McMurray, Miller was a part of starting the first all-female elite program that would participate in the East Central Alberta Female Hockey League. Miller was the head coach of the U11 Elite Girls Team last season. 


The Female Council will foster, promote, develop, supervise, and regulate all amateur female hockey within the Province of PEI.
