Seminars will take place Sept 9-10

For a third year, Hockey PEI will offer a free Coach Development Weekend for minor hockey coaches in the province September 9-10.  The Development weekend will contain two different streams including a Player Development seminar and a Goalie Seminar for interested coaches.

Hockey PEI is pleased to welcome Corey McNabb from Hockey Canada and Bob Caldwell from Hockey Manitoba to lead the Player Development seminar and Mike Smith who will lead the Goalie Seminar sessions.

The Player Development seminar led by McNabb will focus on the importance of Long Term Player Development and individual skill development.  This will include both classroom sessions and on-ice sessions with a focus on individual skill based drills, small area games and developing defensemen.

The Goalie Seminar, will entail two classroom sessions and one on ice session on Saturday led by Mike Smith.  The sessions will focus on introducing goalie specific teaching and goalie specific skill drills.  The sessions are meant to give a basic introduction to any coach who would like to learn more about goalie specific instruction.

“This is a great opportunity to learn for coaches of all levels”, stated Hockey PEI President Barry Thompson.  “We appreciate the opportunity to have top quality instructors providing these services to our coaches and in return providing coaches with education and great resources to use with their teams”.

This year’s Coach Development Weekend will be held on Friday September 9th (5:15 – 8:30 pm) and Saturday, September 10th (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) on the UPEI Campus and the Bell Aliant Centre .  Saturdays sessions will end with a Coaches Hot Stove featuring Corey McNabb, Bob Caldwell & Mike Smith.

These seminars are open to all coaches of all levels and are free.  To register or for more information, please contact Hockey PEI Technical Director Mike White at or by phone at phone 902-368-4334
