Atom & Pee Wee AAA female leagues reintroduced

The female game on PEI will see some changes as leagues officially open up this week.  Through the hard work of the female steering committee and minor council, this season will see some new changes to the female game.

As part of a pilot project the Atom and Pee Wee female divisions have reintroduced a three team AAA league in each division in addition to the A leagues.  There was a strong desire to reintroduce these two AAA female leagues.  The AAA teams are Western Wind, Mid Isle Wildcats and Central Storm.

Also this year as a result of growth at the novice level, will see the introduction of a six team Novice female league in the province.  This is the first time that a novice league has been established for female players.

“These changes are a positive step for female hockey in the province”, stated Jen MacDonald Director Female Hockey.  “Our goal was to enhance development opportunities for female players at all levels and are very pleased with the growth and introduction of a Novice female league for young girls in the province”.

This year will also see many development programs established for female players in the province.
