CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Hockey PEI’s Senior/Junior Hockey Council made the announcement over the labour day weekend of the appointment of Morell, PEI native, Andrew MacAdam as its new Island Junior Hockey League Commissioner

MacAdam, 56, will enter his 27th year of teaching this school year. The East Wiltshire Junior High School Physical Education teacher has been involved in coaching a variety of school sports over the years. His hockey background includes playing from a very young age through one year of Junior “A” along with several years in the now-defunct Eastern Kings Senior Hockey League.

His past also included a coaching stint with the Morell Junior C team along with many minor hockey teams where MacAdam would serve as coach, trainer or manager for many of his kid’s playing years. MacAdam remains an active hockey on-ice official and stays involved with the Intro to Hockey Program in Charlottetown – a program to which he was part of creating and that helps kids wanting to learn skating and the basics of hockey.

We are excited to have Andrew joining the Island Junior Hockey League this upcoming season. His vast experience not only in hockey, but other sports as well, will allow Andrew to bring different perspectives for growth and longevity to the league. We believe he will be a tremendous ambassador for our game.

– Adam Stewart, Hockey PEI Senior/Junior Chair.

Currently, MacAdam also holds the title of Commissioner for Senior Soccer within the PEI School Athletic Association, and also assigns officials for all the school soccer east of Bluefield. As part of his day job at East Wiltshire School, he acts as the school’s Athletic Director which has overseen a successful program of athletics over the years. Furthermore, he is part of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Under-15 Soccer Nationals being hosted in Charlottetown and Cornwall this upcoming thanksgiving.

The Island Junior Hockey League’s annual draft is set to take place this Tuesday, September 6th at 8:00 PM in Charlottetown.
