CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The PEI Junior “C” Hockey League is getting a new commissioner. Charlottetown’s Morgan Rice has been named to the position following the departure of former Commissioner, Chris Hedefine.

Rice, a member of Hockey PEI’s Development Hockey Council has been involved with hockey as a coach for 16 years now. Having coached all categories from “A” to “AAA” from the Under-11 division up to Junior. Furthermore, he has been involved with the former Hockey PEI Program of Excellence and now the High Performance Program.

In addition, Rice has served on the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association board as Director of Development for 4 seasons. He is entering into his ninth year as a Youth Worker / Social Service worker having experience working in group homes, hospitals, and the Public-School sector.

“Our council is very much looking forward to welcoming Morgan to our team. He has been around the game for many years but will bring a fresh perspective to Junior “C” hockey on PEI. We feel he is a good fit for the position and a person who can work with our teams collectively in improving the league overall.”

– Adam Stewart, Junior/Senior Hockey Council Chair

As commissioner, Rice will work to build a strong relationship with the league’s five teams (North River Flames, Pownal Ice Dogs, Sherwood Metros, Southside Lynx, and Tignish Aces). He will also look to strengthen existing and new sponsorship opportunities along with the general operations and governance of the league.
