The game of female hockey has been played for more than 100 years, and has been growing exponentially since 1990, the year of the first official women’s world championship. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.
With Canada’s success on the international stage, female hockey has continued to grow. Opportunities for players, coaches and officials to be involved in minor hockey and high performance programs have increased in large part to programs and events held across Canada.
Hockey Canada has the information you need to succeed in all areas of the sport. Whether you are an aspiring player, coach, official, parent or association member, it’s time to lace up the skates, crack the books, strap on the pads and get into the great Canadian female game!

The Female Game on PEI is governed by Minor Council and a designated Female Steering Committee. The Female Steering Committee is responsible to review all areas of female hockey, including but not limited to registration, programing, player development, events and projects. The committee also develops new initiatives and programming to the benefit of female hockey.
Hockey PEI Programs
The female game consists of AAA and A leagues within PEI. Hockey PEI is also pleased to have introduced a Novice Female League. For more information on female registration in your community contact your local association – MHA Contacts
Female Development Clinics
Throughout each season, the Hockey PEI Female Steering Committee will offer development clinics for female players aged 5-12. The grassroots development program is geared towards females already playing the game, as well as those starting out. The event creates a non-competitive atmosphere which allows the participants to have fun and play with other girls with similar abilities and experience from around the province.
These Development programs are one day clinics and includes both on ice and off ice curriculum. All sessions are led by staff of the Hockey PEI High Performance Program.
Hockey PEI will promote these clinics through social media each season.
