CHARLOTTETOWN, PE - Cornwall's Jack Robinson is set to depart for Edmonton, Alberta this week to join Hockey Canada's Officiating Program as a Referee for the 2024 Hilinka Gretzky Cup.
Robinson will convene with other officials from across the country in Edmonton for the Officials Program of Excellence Men's Elite Development Camp on Friday before the tournament kicks off on Monday, August 5th.
We are proud of Jack's development over the recent years and his selection to this event. Attending an event like this in August during the summer months shows his commitment to his craft and his program and we are confident he will represent Hockey PEI well in Edmonton said Hockey PEI's Manager of Officiating, Steven Green
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an annual invitation-only event held each August that is the only best-on-best competition at the U18 level. The tournament serves as the first opportunity for fans and scouts to see NHL Draft prospects in their draft year, 10 months before the draft takes place. Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team has long been the dominant force in summer U18 hockey, laying claim to 24 of the 32 gold medals awarded since 1991, including runs of seven (1996-2002) and eight (2008-15) consecutive golds.
As for the officials, this event serves as an opportunity for those officials who are seeking interest in a International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) liscense to showcase their skills.
