CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Hockey Canada has announced its Team Staff who will guide Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, as well as Canada’s national under-17 program for the 2022-23 season. 


Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team will gather in Calgary for selection camp from July 20-23 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park ahead of the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, presented by RAM. The Hlinka Gretzky Cup will make its return to Canada, with Red Deer, Alta., hosting the top under-18 players in the world at the Peavey Mart Centrium, July 31-Aug. 6.

Islanders Dr. Ben Cameron and Andrew “Spider” MacNeill have been named to the Roster as Team Staff. Dr. Ben Cameron will serve as the Team’s Physician while Andrew MacNeill will serve as one of two Equipment Managers. 

Dr. Ben Cameron (Summerside, PE) has been working with Canada’s National Team programs for the last couple of years, serving in the role of Team Physician. The Doctor has contributed to the National Para Team Program along with its Under-17 program. Dr. Cameron has worked in multiple clinics across the country in both family medicine and sports medicine. He has provided sideline medical coverage for USport rugby, hockey, football, and wrestling; National and International short and long track speed skating competitions; Canadian Rugby Championships; professional boxing; CHL, NHL and CFL games. 

Andrew “Spider” MacNeill (Stratford, PE) the long-time Equipment Manager of PEI’s Charlottetown Rocket and Charlottetown Islanders QMJHL franchises will look to add to his National Team Program resume. Having previously worked with Canada’s National Under-17 program, he has also been in support staff roles for special events such as the CHL’s Canada-Russia Series, NHL’s Kraft HockeyVille and more. 


The staff will oversee and lead 100 players at Canada’s national under-17 development camp, set for July 10-16 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The staffs will also lead Team Canada Black, Team Canada Red and Team Canada White at the 2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Langley and Delta, B.C., Nov. 5-12.

Islander Devan Praught was amongst those announced to the Team Staff for the Under-17 program where he will serve as an Assistant Coach. 

Praught (Summerside, PE) was named head coach of the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos on March 7th after serving as an assistant coach with the team during the 2021-22 season. Prior to this, he led the Notre Dame Hounds to a Telus Cup Championship in 2018. He was also an assistant coach with Team Saskatchewan at the 2019 Canada Winter Games and is set to make his international debut behind the bench.
