This award is established to honour individuals who, for many years, have served amateur hockey faithfully, having participated as players, coaches, and/or as active members of an association.  An individual who has dedicated themselves to the ideals of both Hockey Canada and Hockey PEI and who has worked tirelessly and made an outstanding contribution to amateur hockey on PEI.

Charlottetown, PE РShawn Rodgerson can easily be described as someone who has served amateur hockey faithfully. Shawn has been a part of the Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association for the last 5 years.  In the last 3 years, Shawn has taken on the positions of Novice Director and Equipment Manager for the arena. This year, Shawn devoted his time to his home association by taking on the responsibilities of Equipment Manager, U-11 Director & Team Manager for his son’s team.

Shawn can be described as a very organized individual with incredible dedication to the game of hockey and his home association. You can always find him around the rink talking with parents and coaches, providing advice and answering questions. He even goes the extra mile by sending weekly emails and Facebook posts to keep parents updated, and advocates for extra ice-time for his team.

Last year, when his child’s Novice AA team was exempt from competing in the Early Bird Tournament due to new half-ice rules, Shawn advocated to change the rules and succeeded in giving his team their very first home tournament.

Apart from his contributions to his minor hockey association, Shawn is also a full-time parent who has a full-time job. It takes great commitment to never miss a practice, game, or meeting and for that, we thank you, Shawn

He does all of this without asking for recognition. He is a very humble person who never wants a thank you; he says he does it because he enjoys it and clearly wants a great hockey season filled with memorable moments. Hockey PEI is proud to present the 2020 Volunteer of the Year Award to Shawn Rodgerson.
